Neil S. Gladstone, M.D.
Dr. Neil S. Gladstone is a native of St. Louis, Missouri. He is a graduate of Central Methodist College (cum laude) and receive his MD degree from the University of Missouri in 1969. He served his Internship and Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. John's Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis. Dr. Gladstone then spent two years on active duty with the United States Air Force with the rank of Major. During his tenure, he established a specialty service for Pregnant Diabetics.
In 1975, Dr. Gladstone moved his family to Riverdale, Georgia and joined Drs. Myron Katz and Allen Dinnerstein. In 1978, the practice changed to Katz and Gladstone, MD, PC and this is the beginning of the practice that continues today as MyOBGYN, PC.
High points in Dr. Gladstone's career include bringing the first office Ultrasound to Atlanta, Office Mammography, Office surgery including the only CO2LASER for office treatment of Cervical Disease and later LEEP surgery as well as Office Hysteroscopy and advance Saline Inhanced Sonography.
When Dr. Gladstone started practice at Clayton General (now Southern Regional Medical Center), minimal modern services were available. He brought Epidural Analgesia, father attended childbirth including during C/sections, LeBoyer (Gentle Birth) techniques, as well as a very successful VBAC program. The Women's Center was an idea brought forth in the early 1980s and finally was constructed in the 1990s. Unfortunately, by the time the Women's Center was operational, Dr. Gladstone had stopped his obstetrical practice and never had the opportunity to use the center he helped inspire.
From 1982 to 1991, Dr. Gladstone and Dr. Katz were active at Georgia Baptist (now Atlanta Medical Center). Dr. Gladstone was very active working with the Resident Staff. One of his residents, Dr. Al Reynolds is now a part of My OBGYN. Dr. Gladstone received several awards from Georgia Baptist. The most important was receiving the very first Teacher of the Year Award presented by the Department.
Dr. Gladstone was known for his surgical expertise and after stopping obstetrics, he developed a very successful Endoscopic Surgical Practice. He received one of the first Certificates of Accreditation from the Council of Endoscopic Surgery recognizing his skill in Advanced Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopic Surgery. He trained Surgeons and Gynecologist for years in these technologies and established a very advanced Endoscopic program at Southern Regional. He trained as well as participated in training programs throughout the country as well as Europe. Also, he offered to patients at the time the most advanced surgical treatments for Pelvic Organ Prolapse as well as Endometriosis.
During his years of practice, Dr. Gladstone served as various Medical Staff Officers at both Southern Regional as well as Georgia Baptist. He was involved with the conception of managed care, being the co founder of the Women's Health Care Alliance (WHCA) which was the largest single specialty organization at the time in the US. He also worked to establish a Hospital Physicians Organization at Southern Regional.
Since 2000, Dr. Gladstone has limited his practice to non-hospital practice. In 2006 and again 2011, he was awarded the designation of Certified Clinical Densitometrist by the International Society of Clinical Densitometry. This indicates that he is one of a hand full of physicians in the country to who have the training and expertise to read and interpret Bone Density Studies. This fits into his expertise in managing hormone problems including menopause and osteoporosis. With an interest in preventive medicine, he is active in learning about and providing care for the most common and potentially devastating diseases to face women, namely cardiovascular (Heart) disease and the precursors of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and lipid abnormalities.
Dr. Gladstone has enjoyed a life time of learning. He was Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1975 and was in the first class to be Re-certified (by examination) in 1986. He has actively participated in the voluntary recertification program of the American Board since inception of the program. He is also a member of the North American Menopause Society, The American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, the International Society of Clinical Densitometry, The National Lipid Association as well as the Atlanta and Georgia State OB/GYN Societies, and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. At the present time he is preparing for the examination to become a NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner.
